Talking Out the Big Things: A Corollary to Yesterday’s Post

By Single Makes Perfect
While a restricted amount of time talking out the little things in life, probably has little effect on me, the problem of not having a defined partner to talk things through with, does seem to pose a problem on the bigger things in life.

To whom can I brag about the raise I got at work or the fact that I got my car loan paid off early?  My best friend may be supportive and happy for me to my face, but she has some major financial concerns and I believe that part of her will simply be jealous or think that my “good fortune” is somehow unfair.

When I was considering buying a house, there were too many decisions to weigh out by myself. This, and other similarly big moves are difficult to make on ones one. And yet, it is difficult to find anyone up to the time, energy, and all-out mental commitment that it would take to have all of the serious discussions that such large decisions all but require. (Friends who had already taken the leap to homeownership were of much help and those who were still new to the game were more than willing to discuss the finer points. This was helpful, but not the same as having someone making the decision with me.)

Talking to many people without placing the entire burden on any individual seems the best best.  For this, I am thankful to the many people in my life whom I can depend on and trust.
