Single Makes Perfect

April 28, 2008
The title of my blog:

  • refers, in part, to the many changes that have taken place inside of me, since I became single. The me of my coupledom days would be so proud of the current me. She would hope that we could be friends and would recognize the powerful woman that has grown out of herself. I think that I have stayed true to the me that has always been, while gaining much confidence and learning to love life. In short, I’m working towards perfect and I’m doing it as a singleton.

  • plays on the phrase “practice makes perfect.” Rarely does anyone’s first relationship turn into their last. Rarely is anyone 100% happy with themselves. That’s why we all keep trying and all keep working towards our best selves and the way in which we can best relate to/with a significant other.

  • has the word perfect in it because I think that word should be used more often. My grandma often described things as “perfect” whether anyone besides herself would think of them that way or not. To her, they were just right so why not just be happy about it?

Single Makes Perfect: The Vision

April 16, 2008
This blog is primarily focused on the life of the single woman in her late-twenties or early thirties.  Singlehood can (and does) relate to all areas of life.  While I concentrate on individuals that are (at least for the moment) single, I am more than happy to have readers that simply feel single, those that wish to reminisce on their single days or those that are perhaps considering becoming single again.  Similarly, anyone in any age group is more than welcome.  I chose late-twenties and early-thirties because that is the age range that I represent.
Singlehood can (and does) relate to all areas of life.  This blog strives to make comment on everything “single.”  Rather than focusing on dating/relationships or the lack thereof, Single Makes Perfect views all aspects of life through the eyes of an individual that is not in a committed relationship.

Single Makes Perfect: The Mission

April 16, 2008

The mission of this blog is twofold.  First, examination/therapy.  Second, connection/community.

I blog as therapy; in this medium, I am more open to saying things that I don’t always feel free to express in other situations.  Single Makes Perfect allows me space and freedom to analyze the relationship between this thing that is my life and the fact that I am romanticallly unattached.  I blog as a new (to me) form of self expression.

I blog to share with others; I hope to convey my thoughts and circumstances in such a way that others may see themselves in me.  I am not the lone single woman in this world; it is time for us to band together and share our lives together.  I would love for this blog to grow into a place for singles to share and form a community of life, laughter, support, and (I do suppose) a few tears.
